Welcome to EPIC2007

We'd like to welcome you to EPIC 2007, the third international Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference, to be held October 3-6, 2007 in Keystone, Colorado, USA. EPIC is the premier international forum bringing together artists, computer scientists, designers, social scientists, marketers, academics and advertisers to discuss recent developments and future advances around ethnographic praxis in industry. Please join us in beautiful Keystone CO USA as we explore the theme of Being Heard.

We, the committee, have taken the theme to heart in planning this year’s conference – we’ve heard from you. Building on the success and feedback from previous conferences in Seattle (November 2005) and Portland (October 2006), EPIC2007 will have a split highly selective paper track, accompanied by a special artifact session, a day devoted to workshops and two invited keynote speakers. Come and be heard at EPIC2007.

Scope
We welcome submissions that report on innovations in ethnographic praxis, including but not limited to the following topics:

  • New methodologies in ethnographic praxis
  • New applications of ethnographic techniques and perspectives
  • New interfaces and modes of interaction between and across disciplinary and business boundaries
  • New tools and techniques for designing, implementing & deploying application of ethnography in business contexts
  • Theoretical approaches that have proven fruitful in understanding and advancing ethnographic praxis for corporate settings
  • Ethnical & social issues and implications of and for ethnographic praxis
  • Evaluations for assessing the impact of ethnography in business and design environments

Papers will be selected based on a double-blind peer review process and will be included in the Conference Proceedings published by the National Association for the  Practice of Anthropology through the University of California Press and the American Anthropological Association. The proceedings will also be made available through AnthroSource.

Artifacts and workshop contributions will be peer reviewed and accepted as short papers to be published in the Proceedings of EPIC2007. Workshop descriptions will also be posted on-line on the conference website.
